We had the pleasure of working with Big Daddy Farms on a custom indoor pickleball court — a project that was equal parts playing surface and showpiece.
The vision
The client wanted a court that performed as a top-tier playing surface and looked striking enough to be the centerpiece of the room. That combination drove every material decision.
The build
- Moisture vapor barrier primer. The first layer, and a non-negotiable one. It prevents moisture in the slab from migrating up and destroying the flooring above it.
- 100% epoxy solids with metallic color. A high-solids epoxy body coat carried the metallic color that gives the court its depth.
- Court layout and lines. Playing lines were laid out and applied to regulation dimensions for the space.
- Protective topcoat. A clear topcoat over the whole system protects the color and the lines from play traffic.
Why the sequence matters
A court floor is one of the least forgiving installations there is — the surface is highly visible, the traffic is constant, and any bond failure shows up immediately. Getting the primer and the slab preparation right is what makes the visible layers last.
